The problem, Challenge to solve?
Data Center environment consisted of old Cisco CSM modules in Aggregation (Distribution) Switches. As the applications expanded issues with bandwidth and throughput started to occur on Cisco CSM. Overall it was an outdated system that couldn’t provide bespoke functionality that modern applications demanded.
F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) helps to deliver applications to users in a reliable, secure, and optimised way. Business applications will benefit from extensive and flexible services that F5 offers in the areas; physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure.
With F5 LTM, the business has the power to simplify, automate, and customise applications faster and more predictably. Without any doubt, it was an obvious choice to migrate to BIG-IP F5 LTM to support versatile and robust infrastructure.
What was done
Migration has been split into a number of smaller phases as it mitigated any risks to the business and in any event, it was quicker to troubleshoot any problems.
The engagement covered the design and migration of the current load-balancing environment based on Cisco CSM to F5 BIG-IP. We have developed a detailed technical implementation plan that consisted of PERL scripting for the transformation.
Initially, all the configuration has been loaded on F5 VE to make sure it will produce desired results. Subsequently, further testing in Virtual environment allowed us to refine the setting until we were satisfied with the results. Only then we were confident to migrate the entire domain to new devices.
Internal application teams have tested their application after the migration. Subsequently, F5 ASM and APM have been deployed to provide additional security for a pool of applications.
Certificates and Private Keys have been also migrated from Cisco SSLM to the F5 to complete the entire deployment

The migration was flawlessly executed, and our environment is now primed to harness the full potential of customized F5 devices in high-availability mode.
