Objective
We were selected to design and deploy a High-Availability (HA) VPN solution for 180 satellite offices and 3rd Party Clients. The main goal was to deliver a cost-effective, reliable, secure and scalable VPN solution to fulfil business requirements.
What was done
After closely reviewing all the requirements, we have provided an initial design, which the client has accepted for implementation. In detail, we based the whole project on VPN (IPSec Tunnel) with Reverse Route Injection into a routing protocol. Therefore, we could advertise all the routes dynamically to new vendors.
NAT’ing had to be deployed to avoid conflicting network ranges with 3rd Party Suppliers and also a necessity to advertise different environments. Unencrypted traffic has been subjected to strict filtering via Edge Firewalls before it was allowed to the Network. High Availability connections could be terminated at either of the two sites, with HSRP providing resilient failover. Before handing over the environment to operations, we have satisfied functional and non-functional criteria. We achieved this by rigorous certification and testing. We have worked closely with local technical team members with the end client to assist with project reporting, issues tracking and resolution. The whole design is very scalable, which allows the in-house IT department to add new sites or 3rd Party Suppliers without compromising any of its security.
Achievement
The company has saved substantial money by not implementing private circuits or 180x MPLS points. The client is delighted that the solution is highly scalable, and it has already extended this service to new business partners. Overall, the whole project has been very successful for our client, and they are using this solution to this day.
